Mini Reunion Update –

10 September 2020

Subject: Veterans Day Sitrep

To:  All Blackhats,

The current COVID situation will not permit us to have our annual Veterans Day mini-reunion in DC this year.  Unfortunately, the locations and activities that we would like to visit are closed or closed to visitor groups and nobody knows when that might change.

We will have to take COVID recovery one step at a time, but at this point we tentatively plan to have a Benning reunion next year in the May-September time frame if it’s at all possible. We’ll monitor the situation there closely and keep you informed.

The good news is that Will Maas is making excellent progress on the Blackhat book. However, we still need your stories and pictures, especially those from the 1970-72 period. We will find a way to get sections out for comment. You can contact Will at:

April – 2020

Blackhats:

It’s time to decide about our 2020 reunion scheduled for 9-12 June at Ft. Benning.  The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has created the following situation:

  • All graduation ceremonies at Ft. Benning are on an indefinite hold with no estimated relief date
  • The Infantry Museum is closed indefinitely
  • The “six-foot personal separation rule” does not lend itself to our reunions

Based upon the above, the June reunion is hereby cancelled.  The block of rooms at the Best Western will be removed so cancel any reservations you might have.

We are reviewing the airborne/pathfinder training schedules to see if there is an acceptable replacement date in the September/October time frame.  If not, we may scratch the Benning reunion this year, continue with the usual Veterans Day DC reunion in November, and try again for Benning in 2021.

More to follow when the situation clears.

AATW,

Dick Gillem

AATW,

Dick Gillem

AATW,

Dick Gillem

  • The “six-foot personal separation rule” does not lend itself to our reunions

Based upon the above, the June reunion is hereby cancelled.  The block of rooms at the Best Western will be removed so cancel any reservations you might have.

We are reviewing the airborne/pathfinder training schedules to see if there is an acceptable replacement date in the September/October time frame.  If not, we may scratch the Benning reunion this year, continue with the usual Veterans Day DC reunion in November, and try again for Benning in 2021.

More to follow when the situation clears.
